Results for Placerville Speedway Green Motorsports headed up the hill to However the heat race was not as positive. Starting in the number 3 position Cory began the heat race well but with the greasy track, spun the car in turn 3 and quickly returned to the back of the pack. Working his way back through traffic on lap 6 a fellow driver also spun on turn 3 leaving Cory no where to go but up and over the spun out car! Fortunately both drivers were uninjured but major front end damage to both cars had the tow trucks hauling them both back to the pits. The team when to work on the 53c thrashing to make the needed repairs for the main event which was coming up in just a short time. With a spare front end, all of the front radius rods, and some spare shocks the team with the help of fellow racer Rick Holbrook managed to finish just as they were calling us to staging. No time to change the set up or get it perfect but ready to take the green. Cory now starting in the second to last position in the main event had a long line to the front. The night took its toll on many of the cars with spin outs and flips and as the checkered flag flew Cory had managed to hang on for a top 5 finish. A rough night of racing but overall was successful. We need to do a lot of repairs to the 53c before she can return to the track in top condition but we are grateful that Cory was ok because we can always buy more parts! With temperatures over 100 degrees we headed to This race brought out a lot more racers as we had 18 cars sign into the pits for the 1st time this year. Hot laps were just that…hot and track conditions were horrible. Rutty and bumpy, dry in spots and muddy in others. By the time the 1st heat began they had re-graded the corner in turn 1 twice trying to make it better but only making it worse. Cory was in the 2nd heat and tried to hold the car on the rough track. The car was loose and on about lap 7 broke the torsion bar stop on the car. Cory continued but handling was even more of a problem finishing in 6th for the heat. After the track called for a brief sun break for the sun to set a bit due to the way the track faces it is almost impossible to see as the drivers drive directly into the west setting sun. The main event found Cory lining up in the #12 position. The sun was beginning to set so the temperatures were slightly cooler. As the cars took the green the dust began to fly and on lap 6 the red flag came out as the big flip of the night occurred. Both drivers were ok but only one car was able to continue. As the race restarted Cory seemed to be settling in on his race and driving very well. He had worked his way up to 6th when coming into turn 4 spun the car around bringing out the yellow flag. Many cars were having problems tonight as the field began to thin. Cory now starting at the back with only 5 laps left in the main event drove hard again and managed to finish 7th for the night. We all retuned to the trailer to drink a beer and cool off from a hot and dusty race. Good job Cory you hung in there and finished a good race. Nothing a girl would rather do than scrape mud on a 100 degree day! After a rebuild on the Honda motor after the incident in As Cory took the car out for hot laps all seemed right with the world as he sped around the track and had a great hot lap session. Time for heat race and the track conditions were already deteriorating. Cory started 3rd in the 1st heat and was off to a quick race. On lap 5 coming into turn 3 the mini looped going into the corner bringing out the yellow and sending Cory to the back of the pack. With just 3 laps left in the heat Cory managed to work his way back up to finish in 4th place for his heat. While preparing for the main event a fellow racer Jason Sneep who is currently leading the points chase for the championship informed us that his car had broken a shaft in the motor during the heat race and his car would be unable to continue for the main. He wanted to borrow our car so he wouldn’t loose his lead in the points. Cory decided quickly to let Jason take the seat of our car and sit out the main event to help. Their team has always been a favorite of ours and Cory is very generous and a great sport when it comes to racing..he knows how hard it is to win and appreciates that it takes a huge effort to keep your car on the track at all times. During Cory’s rookie year in the car we had help from several fellow racers helping us when we needed it also with a loaned wing, a borrowed rear end just to name a few. Without that Cory many not of accomplished his goal of Rookie of the Year which he now proudly holds that honor. After the decision was made we had to get Jason in the car to get the adjustment right. The seat belts needed adjusting along with some adjustments to the car itself. Because we had substituted a driver in our car the racing penalty for the substitution is you must start at the back of the field. Jason had a ways to go. As the main event lined up on the track Cory sat in the stands with mom and dad watching his car rolled around the track getting ready to start. As the green flag flew the cars were off to a quick start with Jason passing several cars on the 1st lap. On lap 3 a car flipped coming into the corner just as Jason was coming into the corner also but he somehow avoided it as we all let out a huge sigh of relief. Lap after lap the 53c did what she does best ….drove past the competition with Jason at the helm. By lap 17 of 20 Jason had worked his way up to 2nd place and was challenging the leader and almost had him when the checkered flag flew. What we didn't realize until the race was over is that Jason should have used his steering wheel instead of Cory's . Becasue Cory has a fatter wheel Jason couldn't hold onto it as the race went on and he was steering by the spokes in the center. We were all very excited as this meant Jason would keep his lead in the points and our car was the fastest car on the track with top speed and the fastest lap times all night. And although Cory didn’t drive he was happy for Jason and was proud as everyone commented on how fast the car was coming from last place to finish second with a motor that Cory built under the hood. Great job Cory, you’re a true sportsman and an awesome mechanic and congratulations Jason…we are happy for you too. Results for Placerville Speeway This was Cory’s first time this season back in the seat of the mini sprint. The drag racing schedule required us miss several dirt races so we were excited to return to the circle track. After a chassis rebuild from the prior accident and a new motor that has over 50 hours of porting, polishing, pure heart put into it we were eager to see how the car would run. Well it didn’t take long to find out that the car and motor were in awe-inspiring shape. Starting on the pole Cory jumped out to a quick lead and within a half of lap left the rest of the field vanishing behind him. Taking the checkered flag with more than a full second lead and his first heat race win we all cheered with excitement. One of the officials came up to Cory after the heat race and said, “Wow! You drove a great race, where have you been all year?” The guys did discover a small leak in the radiator after the heat race and quickly patched it back together as we prepared the car for the finale. After the inversion was pulled for the line up Cory started on the inside of row 3 for the main event. As the green flag dropped we watched as the cars quickly began racing for position. On lap 3 a car spun out coming into turn 4 and we all breathed a sigh of relief as

Cory takes the win as he dominates the heat race with a 1.130 second lead!

Cory’s quick reaction avoided a pile up. After racing hard for 15 laps and working his way up to 4th place a fellow driver on the outside of the 53c made a poor decision and dove to the bottom without looking, chopping Cory off and forcing him into the infield. Cory taking the infield berms at over 60 mph the car bounced hard as Cory finally got the car back to the track only to have it stall as he came to the flag stand. The race was over for us. As the tow truck pushed the car back to the trailer the disappointment was rampant. Initially we thought it might be an electrical problem but after dismantling the motor the next morning it was discovered that the timing chain had broken causing major damage to the head and valves. Most likely caused by the over revving while taking the rough ride through the infield our brand new motor, the one that led the field by over a full second is now once again dead on the bench.
But we will rebuild and we will run again, because that is what we do. So cinch up your seatbelts and tighten down your hans because when the 53c returns to the track it will be on a mission to the front.

As Cory prepared the mini sprint for the 1st race of the season his phone rang and it was a fellow racer who needed a ride for the race on Saturday. His car was not ready as they were waiting on parts that hadn’t arrived. He wanted to run for the points championship this year and wondered if Cory would loan him his car.
Cory always wanting to help decided to let him borrow our car since we have many conflicting races between the funny car, dragster and the mini sprint this season and probably won’t be in points contention anyway.
It was a rough night of racing at Placerville Speedway as the cars came in contact several times with the last time causing some pretty major damage to the chassis, breaking a front tube completely off. But we finished the race in 7th place for the evening receiving the points for the run.
As Cory began to dismantle the car to make the repairs he also noticed that the center supports had also became twisted so a major redo to the chassis was necessary.
Cory straightened the center support and welded in a new front tube. It is now off to sandblast and needs to get re-powder coated. Cory also made new body panels and will get those painted some time next week. Perhaps a new color scheme for the mini sprint???
With the dragster and the funny car taking up the next couple of weekends our next race in the mini in not until May 8th so hopefully it will all be ready to go for Placerville. Come join us as Cory will be back in the seat for that race.
The dismantled 53c getting repaired.
