The weekend started off well
as we were the #1 Qualifier

Final Round

If you own and drive a funny car, well "Funny Car Fever" is the prize to win so the SAG Racing Team loaded up the BATTLE BORN funny car and headed for Sacramento Raceway for the 2 day event.

Friday began early for the team as they wanted to take advantage of the test and tune session prior to qualifying on Friday night. They made their first test pass and the car shot out of the gate awesome but took a hard left turn about 1000 feet out, Cory peddled the throttle and got it straightened back out and continued the run still managing a 190 mph. The track conditions were a little touch and go on Friday night as several cars hit the wall trying to get down the track. When it came our turn to make the 1st qualifying pass Cory held onto it as it ran a 7.16 et at 197 mph. After a long day we headed home to get some rest as Saturday was sure to start early.

Round 2 of qualifying came early Saturday morning after the guys made a few changes to the car. Cory ran a 7.216  almost a perfect run with a 7.20 index and clinched the #1 Qualifier position insuring him lane choice and bragging rights. We went back to the trailer to await 1st round of eliminations.

1st round was an easy win for the SAG Racing team as Cory cruised past his opponent even lifting before the finish.

The Semi-Final round was not quite as easy as both cars launched it was a drag race all the way and both cars ran way to fast but Cory took the win with the closest to the index time.

WOW the Finals! Were going to the finals! Excitement soon turned to anticipation as we found that our opponent is the same car that the last 2 races has beaten our car by a fraction of a second on both occasions. But Cory said “Not  tonight” as he crawled into the cockpit for the final round. The air was cool and the sun setting as both cars did their burn outs and lined up at the starting line. As we held our breath both cars charged off the line and ran side by side all the way down the track. To close to tell who had won until the lights flashed at the finish line. Another race for the record books as Cory ran a 7.237 and his opponent ran a 7.243. Five one hundredths of a second win! Just like the prior races it all came down to a fraction of a second but this time victory lane was ours!

As we pulled the car into the winners circle for the photographs and trophy, I do believe that the smiles on our guys were the biggest I have ever seen. Even Don had a big smile as tired as he was.

Outstanding job and congratulations go out to the entire SAG Racing team as they worked hard and deserved this win.
